Spring Festival in Assam.

With the arrival of the spring season, their comes the colourful festival of ‘Rongali bihu’. Celebrated in the middle of the month of April, the spirit of the colourful spring festival is spreads all over the region. Rongali Bihu is a integral part of assamese culture and tradition. As the name indicates its a colourful festival all about dance, music and merry making. The spring festival is going to be little different this year as sporting activities are also included along with other celebrations.

Rongali bihu is one of the most important part of the assamese peoples, as it one of the most colourful and joyfull festival. The festival brings new hopes, aspirations and freshness to the lives of the people. The festival also has an emotional attachment with the lives of the people, it is celebrated with lots of enthusiasim and spirit and so the assamese people says;

“Ati koi senehor mugare muhora”
“Ati koi senehor maku”
“Tatu koi senehor Bohagor Bihuti”
“ Napati keneke thaku”

Rongali Bihu is also known as the festival of love and affection, as the most traditional way of showing love among the young couples is by giving a “Gamosa”to their loved ones.”Gamosa” is also another important part of the assamese culture and is also used as the symbol of showing respect to the elders and love to others. The aspiring sounds of the ‘Dhul’, ‘Pepa’, ‘Gagana’ will be heard in the entire region and indicates the spirit of the festival. Cultural festivals and functions are organised where you can find Bihu troupes performing at their best. As the assamese people are famous for their great hospitality, various kinds of delicious food and “pitha-pana” are made and served among the guests. With the celebration of Rongali Bihu the people of the region welcomes the new year with new hopes and thoughts in their minds.
